Random Video Chat Guides
Our comparisons cover which platform to use. These cover everything else: what’s actually safe, what anonymity really means here, and what happened to the site that started all of this.
- New to this: read the safety guide first. It covers what moderation does and doesn’t do.
- Looking for Omegle: it closed in 2023. Here’s what replaced it, and which sites just borrowed the name.
- Privacy matters to you: the anonymity guide explains why video chat can’t really be anonymous.
- Looking for LGBTQ+ options: the gay chat guide covers what actually exists and what’s just cam sites.

Safe Websites to Talk to Strangers
No random video chat platform is safe in the way that word implies. What moderation actually does, the red flags worth leaving over, what to do if someone threatens to share a recording, and where to report illegal content.
Chat Sites Like Omegle
Omegle closed in November 2023 and its domain now teases a relaunch. What happened, which alternatives come closest to the original, and why sites using the Omegle name have nothing to do with it.
Anonymous Video Chat
Your face is on camera, so this can’t be anonymous in the strict sense. Three different things platforms mean by the word, whether the other person can see your IP, and which tools do something real.
Gay Chat Roulette
Most gay video chat search results are paid cam sites rather than peer chat. What’s genuinely random and free, which platforms offer face masking, and privacy advice for anyone in a region where being identified carries risk.
What These Guides Are For
Our comparisons answer which platform to use. These guides answer the questions that come before and after that decision.
They have a common theme, which is being honest about limits. Moderation doesn’t prevent bad experiences, it changes the odds. Anonymity doesn’t survive putting your face on camera. Filters filter what people typed rather than what’s true. Most pages in this niche don’t say any of that, because it isn’t a good sales pitch.
We think it’s more useful to know what you’re actually getting.
Elsewhere on the Site
Which platform to use, compared on cost, filters and moderation.
What each platform charges to match you with women, and why.
Which sites are genuinely free, and how to spot the ones that aren’t.
Our methodology, and how we make money.
How we write these: compiled from platform documentation, contemporaneous reporting and independent sources, with the date each guide was last checked shown on its own page. Where sources conflict and we can’t resolve it, we say so rather than picking whichever answer reads best. CooMeet is Vexycam’s affiliate partner and the only platform we earn from; it isn’t recommended in most of these guides, because it doesn’t fit what they cover. Full methodology and disclosure.
